BIRTHING JUSTICE

CAUSE: Health & Wellness

CATEGORY: Film

PROJECT DIRECTOR: Denise Pines

BIRTHING JUSTICE is a documentary film that takes an in-depth look at racial disparities in birthing and maternal mortality in America. As the battle over women’s bodies heats up, BIRTHING JUSTICE examines an often-overlooked crisis: American women today are dying during childbirth at higher rates than in 1987, and African American women are up to four times more likely to die of pregnancy-related causes than their white counterparts. BIRTHING JUSTICE examines why Black women are dying at such astronomical rates and what is being done to prevent these deaths. The film also serves as an educational tool to review various birthing options available to women, focusing on natural birthing with midwifery care.
